Planetary Gearbox Selection Checklist

Good selection begins with the machine duty, not the gearbox catalogue. Record input power and speed, required output speed and torque, peak events, starts and reversals, operating hours, mounting position, shaft loads, ambient conditions, and the target life.

Define Torque

Separate continuous torque from acceleration, starting, jam, or emergency peak torque. A service factor accounts for load variability and drive type, but it does not replace a clear load profile.

Check Thermal Duty

Continuous operation can be limited by heat even when gear tooth torque is acceptable. Ambient temperature, input speed, lubrication, housing surface area, and auxiliary cooling influence thermal capacity.

Freeze Interfaces

Confirm motor flange, shaft or spline, output connection, mounting position, external radial/axial loads, and available installation space before releasing the order.

Prepare The RFQ

Attach drawings, photos, existing nameplates, and machine duty. This reduces model-selection loops and replacement-interface risk.
