Description

Precision Planetary Gearboxes

The PAB, PABR, and PPG precision families are intended for servo and stepper applications where positioning accuracy, torsional stiffness, compact size, and predictable backlash are primary selection variables. Inline and right-angle versions allow the drive train to fit different machine architectures.

Published Performance

Series / Stage Ratio Rated Torque Backlash Options Efficiency
PAB Linear, 1 stage 3–10 14–2,000 N·m ≤1 / ≤3 / ≤5 arcmin ≥97%

Documented Materials

The public product data identifies an ADC12 aluminum-alloy housing and flange, 40Cr ring gears, and 20CrMnTi planet gears with a published surface-hardness range of HRC58–62. Motor adaptors support servo or stepper integration, with keyed or keyless output options depending on series.

Motion-Control Selection

Variable Why It Changes Selection
Motor inertia and speed Affects ratio, acceleration, and input-speed margin
Load inertia Determines reflected inertia and motor sizing
Positioning tolerance Sets the acceptable backlash class
Radial and axial load May require a larger output bearing arrangement
Cycle time Raises acceleration torque and thermal demand
Mounting envelope Determines inline versus right-angle configuration

Backlash Decisions

Do not specify the lowest backlash automatically. Tighter backlash classes improve positioning behavior but can increase cost and may not add value to an application whose compliance or external mechanism dominates total system error. Define the actual position or repeatability requirement at the load.

FAQ

Which series supports right-angle layouts?

The published PABR family is the right-angle precision series.

What is the difference between one and two stages?

Two-stage designs provide higher ratios but generally have slightly lower efficiency and different backlash ranges than one-stage versions.

Are the published backlash values guaranteed for every option?

They are series values and depend on the selected precision class, size, stage, and configuration.

What motor information should I send?

Provide manufacturer and motor model, shaft diameter and length, pilot, bolt pattern, rated and maximum speed, plus your motion profile.
