Application-led custom epicyclic gearbox engineering for non-standard ratio, envelope, mounting, interface, or duty requirements.

Description

Custom Epicyclic Gearbox Engineering

When a standard EP, EPP, or precision platform does not fit the ratio, envelope, mounting, interface, or duty, a custom epicyclic gearbox project can be reviewed from system requirements. The objective is to freeze the real engineering constraints before detailed geometry or commercial commitments are made.

Planetary gearing for industrial automation equipment

Project Definition

Requirement Group Information Needed
Performance Input power/speed, output torque/speed, peak events
Motion Starts, reversals, positioning, backlash or lost motion
Envelope Maximum diameter, length, center distance, mass target
Interfaces Motor, shaft, flange, spline, mounting and reaction points
Environment Temperature, dust, moisture, corrosion, washdown
Lifecycle Duty cycle, design hours, maintenance plan
Quality Inspection, traceability, documentation, acceptance criteria

Engineering Path

The review normally progresses from duty and ratio definition to layout, gear geometry, bearing and shaft load checks, lubrication and thermal concept, interface drawing, and validation plan. The sequence matters because late interface changes can invalidate earlier calculations.

Replacement Projects

For an obsolete gearbox, send the nameplate, complete assembly photos, installation drawing, input/output connection details, and the machine duty. If the original manufacturer data is unavailable, a physical sample may be required to establish the geometry without guessing.

Commercial Readiness

A complete RFQ reduces revision loops. State prototype and annual quantities, target schedule, drawing ownership, required reports, packaging constraints, and whether the unit must match an existing installation envelope.

FAQ

Can you design from only torque and ratio?

Those are essential but not sufficient. Speed, duty, life, interfaces, loads, environment, and space constraints are also needed.

Can a custom unit reuse standard components?

Where compatible, a modular approach can reduce engineering risk and lead time; the final architecture depends on the application.

How should I document an obsolete gearbox replacement?

Photograph the installed unit, capture the nameplate, measure interfaces, provide any old drawings, and describe the machine duty and failure history.

Will you publish my project data?

Project-specific RFQs, drawings, quantities, and dimensions should be treated as confidential unless the customer approves publication.

Data Note: Custom engineering claims are intentionally limited to the review workflow. No unsupported capacity, certification, lead time, or compatibility promise is stated.
